UPM-Kymmene Otepää – Constantly recognized as the largest employer in the region.
With over 250 employees, the UPM-Kymmene Otepää plywood mill has been operating here for more than 25 years. The modern factory runs around the clock, 365 days a year. Estonian birch wood, sourced from within a 100-kilometer radius (plus from neighboring countries), is used to produce plywood. The plywood is used in commercial vehicle industries, construction businesses, as well as in the construction of large liquid gas (LNG) tankers. Additionally, the products are used in pallets, scaffolding, and speaker systems, and veneer produced in Otepää has even been used in Estonian pianos.
