UPM-Kymmene Otepää – Constantly recognized as the largest employer in the region.
With over 250 employees, the UPM-Kymmene Otepää plywood mill has been operating here for more than 25 years. The modern factory runs around the clock, 365 days a year. Estonian birch wood, sourced from within a 100-kilometer radius (plus from neighboring countries), is used to produce plywood. The plywood is used in commercial vehicle industries, construction businesses, as well as in the construction of large liquid gas (LNG) tankers. Additionally, the products are used in pallets, scaffolding, and speaker systems, and veneer produced in Otepää has even been used in Estonian pianos.

TECHNICAL MANAGER

The role

The Technical Manager is responsible for ensuring and developing maintenance operations to achieve economic, quality, and quantity goals. This role involves organizing, managing, and developing mill´ s maintenance (technical equipment, energy, IT, safety, environmental management, and team management).

The main focus will be on developing preventive maintenance and keeping cost discipline. You´ ll be tackling investment plans annually, and making necessary preparations for upcoming investments. You´ ll align Otepää mill´ s maintenance operations with other mills in the group, and exchange best practices between different locations.

The Technical Manager will have 5 members of staff with a combined total of 33 blue-collar workers under his/her management.

You need to meet these criteria to be successful in Your role

  • University Degree that creates the basis for successful performance in this position (engineering, production technology management, etc.);
  • At least 5 years of work experience in the engineering/technical field (as a team manager) of a manufacturing company (vertical career within technical disciplines is desired);
  • Project management skills and experience in dividing responsibility and authority;
  • Knowledge of generally accepted industry standards (ISO, and other);
  • Estonian at least C1 spoken and written. English at least B2 level spoken and written for working with other mills and suppliers;
  • Russian, and Finnish skills would be an advantage (there are several Ukrainians in production and peers from Finland);
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with various stakeholders;
  • Strategic thinking and great leadership skills;
  • Transparent acting and a good amount of sense of humor goes a long way.
